Based on the general texture of this YEM, I'd definitely
put this version after 1986, if not well after '86. This
is just not an '86 show. Period. Add this to the stack
of improperly labeled tapes. There's no argument here, so
sorry. I'm right about this. This YEM is much tighter
than 4/15 and 12/6/86. Of course, if THOSE are also
mislabeled then maybe there's a problem.. ;-)
"This next song is called You Enjoy Myself, and we're
hoping you all enjoy myself during this next song." (Trey)
Opens as the YEMs of today do, and as 8/6/88 does (unlike
4/15/86, and 12/6/86... guitars just start strumming in
those openings). 1, 2, 1-2-3-4 {boom}
This version sounds much more refined than 4/15 and
12/6/86. They definitely worked on it. ;) Sounds akin to
the versions of today in the opening (although there isn't
a big Pre-Nirvana segment, like there is today). The
whole pre-charge is very standard -- all of you would be
able to hum along with most of this. ;) At 5:21 charge
begins. Unless 12/6 and 4/15/86 are both mislabeled,
there is no way in hell this YEM is from '86. Based on
the Mike's Song, as well, I'd have to put this tape/show
in 1987 sometime. Maybe within the first 5 months of
1987. But who knows. This YEM is definitely not from
before 12/6/86, though, if that tape is correctly
labeled.
No screaming before "Boy".. WUDMTF segment fairly
laid-back, standard. There's basically a Page & Mike
section after the WUDMTF (what would today be the tramps
jam section, only with a more active Mike). Trey comes in
with some chords around 8:15 or so. But primarily Mike &
Page (with Fish just keeping the groove and adding some
cool fills here and there).
Trey is just lightly chording in r&b fashion in here, not
taking center stage at all. Page and Mike are much more
prominent than he is... until about the 10 min point, when
Trey starts jamming.
Don't have much to say. Typical melodic noodling from
Trey. He's always been good... ;) No teases of
anything. He's about as active as he usually is ... not
as intense as he was on 4/15/86, until about 12:30, when
he gets more excited... Page is on the piano in
accompaniment for the final minute or two of the jam
segment.. Great interplay in here. Trilling from both
Trey and Page, as they've often done. There's so much
jamming in the end... niiiice.. At 15:29 it is Bass &
Drums time. Typical funky stuff.. Not much with just Fish
and Mike.. Page and Trey come in after about 30 seconds,
and start grooving along. At around 16:50 or so, they
segue nicely into Funky Bitch. Great segue, great old
YEM.. (notice also that this version basically jams harder
than the ALO version.. ;-) (C rating)
