Page's birthday! This version of Tweezer is pretty slow, as far
as
Tweezers go, but then again, this magnificently shitty DAUD-4 is
probably to blame. I'm bothering to say a few words about this
given
the jam segment.
This opening segment is kinda slow (probably because this tape is a
bit
slow, though.. just a bit), but otherwise normal. There's screaming
after "Ebeneezer."
At 4:44 the jam segment begins quite preciously, with Page
delightfully improvising on the piano, and Trey darkly soloing low
on
his 'doc (a chord here and there, but mostly dark, low octave soloing
in a major key). Straightforward opening..
Around 6:18 Trey begins repeating a dizzyingly enchanting lick, which,
in combination with Fish & Mike's straightforward, plodding, typically
tweezeresque bottom, sounds really Damn Cool. Around 7 mins,
the jam
moves into yet another eerie section, which I'm obviously having
difficulty putting into words. Trey still hasn't climbed into
the
'doc's upper reaches, prefering to darkly solo in the lower octaves,
but, well.. the jam basically thrashes repetitively in a fiendishly
groovy manner. At around 8:30 Trey repeats a lick that is right
out
of a hard rock song that I should be able to name (but can't,
unfortunately; a little help? I should be able to name this,
but
can't.. ). [Editor's Note: This is a tease of the "hard rock satire"
song from Cheech and Chong's "Earache My Eye." (a Dr. Demento
favorite) Thanks, Ted.] Trey repeats this lick for a minute or
so,
before picking it up with Fish, and driving the tweezer jam in to a
HOSE EVERY DOWN raging mess around 9:45!!
This groove really smokes, but not for very long, and the Tweezer
theme returns around 10:17 (meanwhile Page appears to be generating
weird sounds on the organ, but otherwise not contributing too much..
very odd jam segment, though). This Tweezer theme begins to die
out
(Page starts noodling more on the organ), and by 11:20 they are all
jazzily toying around delicately. Total time 11:47 (Lifeboy follows).
This was a remarkably short Tweezer, even for 1994, but that 30
seconds of serious fired-up 12/2/95-like jamming was worth throwing
out two cents on this version, imo. 5.5 rating.
two cents
